Be a “Brother”
The Band of Brothers Shakespeare Company is “a muse of fire!” We are accomplishing goal after goal
and sticking closely to our mission statement. The
credit goes to the actors, the board of directors, the
director and producer, the sound and lighting people,
the many volunteers, but also to you. ‘We few, we
happy few, we Band of Brothers…” Thank you.
In 2006, the Band sponsored a trip to
Stratford, Ontario Shakespeare Festival for our actors
and members. Our summer production of Two Gents
was a tremendous success and was featured on PCN
for the first time. Picasso at the Lapine Agile premiered
at the Pasquerilla Arts Center to wonderful
and appreciative crowds, as we continue to expand
venues across our Laurel Mountain. The
Summer Shakespeare Institute for Children ignited
many young thespians to iambic pentameter,
stage combat, Elizabethan dancing and singing.
In 2007, BOB produced "Othello: The Moor of Venice" a gripping voyage into human nature that challenged both actor and audience psyche. And, we are in full production of our 18th Season production of "The Merchant Of Venice".
We are pleased to announce the second year of the Band of Brothers Shakespeare Company Scholarship Award. This scholarship opportunity is for actors and audience who plan on furthering studies in Shakespeare at a college.
The scholarship is in memory of First Lieutenant Jason L. Schmaltz. In 1990, Jason’s words were the magic that encouraged the selection of Laura Gordon for the National Endowment of the Humanities Grant. He was 12 years old when he wrote that Mrs. Gordon was “a one-man band”. His recommendation included in the application process caught the attention of the selection board at both the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Folger Theatre. As a result, Laura was chosen from over 2000 applicants to study with both companies and founded the Band of Brothers Shakespeare Company (and much more).
Jason was a decorated military hero in the Air Force. He was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Air Force Training Medal, with service to our nation most noteworthy
If you wish to contribute to the Scholarship Fund or apply for the scholarship, please email Laura for information.
